What is a Doula?
There are several different ways during the childbearing year that Doulas can help, including:
  • Prenatal support,
  • Labor and delivery support, and
  • Postnatal support
I provide all of these services.

There are also Doulas who can give support with miscarriages, bereavement and abortions. I'm not specifically trained in these areas, but am happy to help, if you would like me to.
Pregnancy Support

My Childbirth Doula package includes prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal care elements. The following prenatal services are included in the package:  ($500 for the entire Childbirth package)
  • Two meetings prenatally: I will also happily meet with you in person before these meetings so that we can find out whether I'm a 'good match' for you. If not, I can recommend another Doula in the area, as it's important that you feel comfortable with your choice in who provides support for you in this journey. Other than the interview, which can be done via Skype or over the 'phone if you'd prefer, and which is usually around 30 minutes long, our prenatal meetings will be approximately 1 hour each. They are a chance for us to get to know one another better, for me to learn what it is you're hoping for in your birth, and to hear about any past experiences of birth you may have.
  • Explore your birth options with you: If you've not yet identified who your provider will be, or if you're not sure what choices they may offer you during labor and delivery, I can provide information to help you make these choices. Please always remember, this is your birth and not mine. I will support you in whatever decisions you make, and will not try to impose my personal views on you.
  • Help with writing a birth plan: I can help you identify not just your ideal scenarios, but also prepare for alternatives so that you can feel more relaxed knowing that you have planned for the possibility of needing more assistance in labor than you had initially anticipated.
I also offer these services as optional extras:
  • Nutritional Counselling: I can thoroughly analyse your current diet and, following your dietary tastes and preferences, suggest recommendations for ways in which you could improve it. If you implement changes to your diet or lifestyle (including postpartum, say if you are breastfeeding), I can perform a second analysis for you at a 25% discount. See full details on the ' Healthy Eating ' page.  ($100 for 1 analysis, $175 for 2 analyses)
  • Pregnancy photography: I do not have fancy camera equipment or props, but have a good eye and am have strong photo editing skills. (1-hour photoshoot with all digital rights released to you for all photographs taken - $40. Photo editing - $10 for each photograph, up to a maximum of $100 for up to 20 pictures. These could be your personal photographs or ones I have taken for you.)
Labor and Delivery Support

My Childbirth Doula package includes prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal care elements. The following labor and delivery services are included in the package:  ($500 for the entire Childbirth package)
  • Continuous support: Some women prefer to labor alone or with their support partner or team for the early stages, when they are 'getting into the swing' of it. Some women want support from the first contraction they have. I will come to you as early or as late as you want me to, and will stay with you throughout labor and delivery (and postpartum - see below), up to 24 hours in total. If your labor lasts longer than this, I can stay on, but there will be an additional charge of $20/hr.
  • Pain relief measures: I can recommend various different pain relief measures for different stages of your labor, and can help you implement them. For example, I can help with counter-pressure, rebozo, position changes, or heat packs, among other things.
  • Emotional support: Labor is an emotional time, with conflicting feelings sometimes rushing through a mother's mind. I can help ease you through this with gentle words, encouragement, visualizations, attentive listening, or whatever it is you need at the time.
  • Information: I cannot give you medical recommendations, but I can tell you about the different options open to you, and can explain what is happening if you're feeling confused.
  • Advocacy: I can help facilitate positive and constructive communication between you, your birthing partner or team, and your healthcare providers.

I also offer these services as optional extras:
  • TENS machine rental: TENS stands for Transcutaneous (i.e. applied across the skin) Electrical Nerve Stimulation. TENS machines are used extensively in the UK to help women through labor. A set of electrodes is applied to the mother's back and she controls the hand-held unit that sets the strength and the pulse speed and length of the impulses. Many women find that TENS machines are very helpful in the early stages of active labor, particularly during travel to the hospital or birth center, or to help with relaxing muscles enough to allow emptying of the bladder if the mother is finding this difficult. ($40 for the duration of , including new electrodes)
  • Birth photography: I will happily take photographs during labor and birth, as per your request, for free. If you would like full editing of these photographs to optimize lighting, focus, saturation etc., I offer this as an optional extra. ($10 per photograph, up to a maximum of $100 for as many photographs as we get)
Postpartum Support

My Childbirth Doula package includes prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal care elements. The following postpartum services are included in the package:  ($500 for the entire Childbirth package)
  • Immediate postpartum: If you want me, I will stay for around an hour postpartum to help with whatever you need - photographs, assistance with breastfeeding, running a food errand, and will provide general support.
  • Postpartum visit: I'll visit you for around two hours postpartum (usually in the first week, but it's your choice) to talk through your birth with you, and to provide support with breastfeeding, newborn care and self care.

I also offer these services as optional extras:
  • Belly binding: This technique helps speed up recovery, helping your internal organs return to their pre-pregnant locations, and offers your postpartum body complete support. I will do one binding, teaching your support partner how to do it, and will lend you the binding wrap for 2 weeks. ($50)
  •  General support: If you would like ongoing help postpartum, I am happy to help you with infant care, self care, breastfeeding, housework, grocery shopping, and whatever emotional or physical support you need. If this is a total of more than 4 hours, I will include belly binding if desired.  ($20/hr)
  • Newborn photography (including breastfeeding, if desired): I do not have fancy camera equipment or many props, but have a good eye and strong photo editing skills. (1-hour photoshoot with all digital rights released to you for all photographs taken - $40. Photo editing - $10 for each photograph, up to a maximum of $100 for up to 20 pictures. These could be your personal photographs or ones I have taken for you.)
